India's Polished Diamond Exports -10% in March

RAPAPORT... India’s polished diamond exports declined 10.4 percent year on year to $1.749 billion in March, according to provisional data from the Gem & Jewellery Export Promotion Council. Polished imports plunged 36.6 percent to $500 million, leaving net exports up 59.7 percent to $1.249 billion.

Rough imports rose 2.6 percent to $1.453 billion, while rough exports fell 15.4 percent to $156 million, leaving net imports up 5.4 percent to $1.297 billion. India's net diamond account in March, accounting for the difference between net imports and exports, registered a deficit of $48 million compared with a deficit of $449 million in March 2014.

During the first quarter of 2015, India's polished diamond exports rose 8.4 percent year on year to $5.84 billion, while polished imports fell 31.5 percent $1.278 billion, leaving net exports up 29.5 percent to $4.561 billion. Rough imports fell 17.7 percent to $3.425 billion, while rough exports declined 16.6 percent to $351 million, leaving net imports down 17.8 percent to $3.074 billion. India's net diamond account for the January through March period rose to $1.487 billion compared with a deficit of $220 million one year ago.

In terms of India's synthetic diamond trading in March, rough synthetic imports fell 77.7 percent to $2.3 million, while synthetic polished exports jumped 76.7 percent to $13.4 million.
