RAPAPORT... Close to 90 exhibitors took part in the Antwerp Diamond Trade Fair (ADTF) in the Belgian city last week amid a “cautious” market, according to the organizers. The number of returning visitors increased, they claimed.

The organizers claimed the mood was “distinctly upbeat” in a statement February 5 despite low expectations going into the event and a slow holiday-sales season for European jewelry retailers. The fair ran from January 31 to February 2 in the halls of the Antwerp Diamond Bourses.

"Fairs are often less about sales, and more about ‘maintenance,’” argued ADTF organizing committee spokesman Michel Schonfeld. “With lots of new buyers coming in and a loyal, ever growing body of retail jewelers and distributors coming back year after year, we have built strong and lasting business relationships that produce sales throughout the year.”

The Antwerp Diamond Night, put on and sponsored by the Antwerp World Diamond Centre (AWDC), was held on Sunday night in the Horta Zaal in the heart of Antwerp's fashion district. Features included a display of creations from the HRD Awards by models.
