RAPAPORT... Mervis Diamond Importers will host the second annual "Diamonds in the RUFF!" event on May 31 and June 1 at its Tysons Corner, Virginia store to raise awareness about dog and puppy adoptions.
A U.S. soldier who was serving in Afghanistan and wanted to design a custom diamond engagement ring for his girlfriend, who was an avid dog lover, inspired the "Diamonds in the RUFF" trunk show at Mervis. The final ring design was inspired by the letters the soldier wrote to his girlfriend and always included a little hand-drawn paw print at the bottom of the page. The result was a diamond engagement ring with a combination of heart and round-cut diamonds that resembled the memorable paw print. Many customers have since requested the unique design for their dog-loving significant others, Mervis stated. During the event, attendees can meet dogs and puppies that are available for adoption from a local shelter. Five dogs were adopted at the 2013 "Diamonds in the RUFF!" event, according to the jeweler.
