RAPAPORT... Mervis Diamond Importers will host the second annual "Diamonds in the RUFF!" event on May 31 and June 1 at its Tysons Corner, Virginia store to raise awareness about dog and puppy adoptions.
A U.S. soldier who was serving in Afghanistan and wanted to design a custom diamond engagement ring for his girlfriend, who was an avid dog lover, inspired the "Diamonds in the RUFF" trunk show at Mervis . The final ring design was inspired by the letters the soldier wrote to his girlfriend and always included a little hand-drawn paw print at the bottom of the page. The result was a diamond engagement ring with a combination of heart and round-cut diamonds that resembled the memorable paw print. Many customers have since requested the unique design for their dog-loving significant others, Mervis stated. During the event, attendees can meet dogs and puppies that are available for adoption from a local shelter. Five dogs were adopted at the 2013 "Diamonds in the RUFF!" event, according to the jeweler.
