RAPAPORT... The
2016 AGTA GemFair Tucson from February 2 to 7 saw a “significant” increase in
attending companies, with more buyers using preregistration, the show
organizers said.
“This was one of the best shows we’ve
ever had,” said Douglas Hucker, chief executive officer of AGTA. “The buzz
about this show started a few months ago, and continued straight through to
closing day. I honestly can’t remember a show where everyone I saw, from
exhibitors to buyers, walked around with a smile on their face all day long.”
Opening day registration was “overflowing” with attendees,
with a new registration system in place, AGTA said in a statement February 10. Exhibitors
at the Texas show were happy with the demand for color they witnessed from
buyers, AGTA said.
The AGTA CAD Design Pavilion return
to their GemFair for its third year, with traffic and participation increasing.
The pavilion lets buyers take their colored gemstone purchase, design a new piece
and leave with a wax mold, all in one place. Expansion is possible in 2017. The
Tools, Technology and Supplies Pavilion was also successful, the statement
said.
AGTA debuted the new education promotion tool, Cultured
Pearls Playbook. There were also several buyer benefits and networking
opportunities.
The AGTA Spectrum Awards winners were showcased
at the fair, with winners given the opportunity to display their award-winning
designs for the final award, the Buyer’s Choice Award. The winner this year was
Bella Campbell of Campbellian, New York.
