Total revenue for the category rose 3% year on year
to $80.4 billion (CNY 509 billion) in January and February, the National Bureau of Statistics of China
said in a statement Monday. Retail sales of all consumer goods increased 10%,
while online sales climbed 37%. The period included Chinese
New Year, which fell in February.
This improved demand was also reflected in exports of Swiss
watches to China, which jumped 22% year on year in February, according to the Federation of the Swiss Watch Industry.
