Yellow Diamond Leads Sotheby's HK Spring Sale

RAPAPORT... Sotheby's will hold its spring sale of magnificent jewels and jadeite in Hong Kong on April 6. The sale will feature 320 lots, including rare colorless and colored diamonds, gemstones and signed jewels from the 1930s. The sale is expected to achieve in excess of $99 million.

The top lot (pictured) is a 77.77-carat, VS2, fancy vivid yellow diamond and diamond ring with a presale estimate of between $6.8 million and  $7.5 million. Yellow diamonds have set world auction records at Sotheby's twice in the past. Most recently, the 100.09-carat Graff Vivid Yellow sold for $16.3 million in May 2014 in Geneva.

Among other top diamond lots is a 23.15-carat, D, internally flawless, type IIa Golconda diamond ring known as The Legend of Golconda. The ring has a presale estimate of between $4.3 million and $5 million.

Pink diamonds also feature at the auction with a 4.57-carat, internally flawless, fancy vivid pink diamond and diamond ring mounted by Carvin French, which is estimated to fetch between $6 million and $7 million.

Jadeite, natural pearls, emeralds and rubies will be highlighted in the sale alongside vintage jewels from Bulgari and Boucheron and contemporary jewels from Marina B and Tamsen Z.
