RAPAPORT... The Panama Diamond Exchange (PDE) has elected Mahesh C. Khemlani as its next president, replacing longstanding chief Erez Akerman.

Khemlani, a former vice minister of finance for the Central American state, joins the bourse from Panamanian private investment firm Grupo VerdeAzul, the exchange said in a statement.

The bourse also said Ali Pastorini, director of marketing of the World Jewelry Hub, the trading center opened in Panama earlier this year, would become senior vice president of the PDE.

PDE founding chairman Eli Izhakoff said the bourse was “truly fortunate to have an individual of the caliber of Mahesh, with his wealth of experience, knowledge, insight, ability and acumen, leading the Panama Diamond Exchange to the next level and beyond.”

Akerman, who is stepping down at the end of October, is set to become managing director of the World Jewelry Hub, the PDE announced in September. He had been president since the bourse’s founding in 2008.
