ALROSA will offer a 401.97-carat rough diamond and a 40.25-carat polished stone at separate sales starting this month in Vladivostok.

The miner’s first rough auction and polished tender in Vladivostok follow ALROSA’s decision to open a base in the Russian city near the border with China to help its sales to the Asia-Pacific region. Some 30 companies from Hong Kong, Israel, India, the U.S., Belgium and Russia will participate in the sale event, ALROSA said.

The rough stone will be the largest of 19 diamonds, with a combined weight of 1,098 carats, up for sale at the miner’s International Auction of Special Size Rough Diamond. It started August 23 and will run until September 3.

A tender of 28 polished diamonds will be held at the same time. A round, 40.25-carat diamond will be the largest on show. Five of the diamonds weigh more than 5 carats each and 18 are fancy colored.

The events will take place in the run-up to the Second Eastern Economic Forum being held in Vladivostok September 2 to 3.
