RAPAPORT... Bonhams will auction an oval, 3.81-carat, fancy intense blue, I1-clarity diamond at its jewelry auction in London September 20.

The stone, with no modifying or secondary color, is estimated to fetch between $1.7 million (GBP 1.3 million) and $2.4 million, or up to $620,631 per carat, the auction house said. The diamond is mounted in an 18-karat white-gold four-claw setting and originates from a private British collection.

“With so few blue diamonds coming to auction, we are anticipating global interest,” said Jean Ghika, head of jewelry for Bonhams UK and Europe.

The auction will also feature a pair of cushion-shaped Kashmir sapphires weighing 8.97 carats and 8.93 carats. Both have a surround of brilliant-cut diamonds and a brilliant-cut diamond surmount. The diamonds have a total carat weight of 4.20 carats.
