J.C. Penney has named James Starke head of merchandising for
the jewelry, men’s, children’s and home departments, the retailer said last
week.
The retailer has also promoted Jodie Johnson to head of
merchandising for the women’s, beauty and family footwear divisions. Both
Starke (pictured) and Johnson will report to Joe McFarland, the newly appointed executive
vice president and chief customer officer, an expansion of his previous role. McFarland
will assume merchandising responsibilities, along with running store
operations.
Additionally, Therace Risch will replace Mike Amend as chief
information officer and chief digital officer.
The personnel changes reflect J.C. Penney’s efforts to
transform its merchandising division.
“Joe is a dedicated advocate for our associates, and knows
firsthand how successful we can be when associates are empowered to deliver the
best shopping experience possible,” said Marvin Ellison, chairman and CEO of J.C.
Penney. “Jodie and James are credited for leading the turnaround of our
merchandising strategy, and will continue to advance this effort by delivering
the best assortment of style and value offered by any retailer.”
