Christie’s Sells Pink ‘Sweet Josephine’ to HK Buyer for $29M

RAPAPORT... Christie’s sold the 16.08-carat ‘Sweet Josephine’ pink
diamond for $28.6 million (CHF 28.7 million) at its auction in Geneva on November
10, Reuters reported.
The large stone with a rare pink hue, set in a platinum and
gold ring surrounded by a double row of pavé-set white diamonds, was sold to a private Asian client, Christie's said. Its
pre-sale estimate was $23 million to $28 million. The origin of the diamond and
the identity of its seller were not disclosed.
"It shows we are dealing with a very healthy stone
market," Reuters cited François
Curiel, chairman of Christie's Luxury Group, as
saying. "There is lots of cash in the world right now. At the moment,
works of art, diamonds and jewels are a safe haven."
A 50.48-carat pear-shaped flawless white diamond also sold
for $7.9 million in the same auction, Reuters said.
Meanwhile, Sotheby’s is hoping to fetch up
to $55 million for the Blue Moon diamond in its own auction
in the Swiss city today.
