RAPAPORT... The International Diamond Council (IDC), a trade body that formulates globally recognized standards for diamond grading and nomenclature, has launched a new website to aid users’ understanding of naming diamonds and terminology.

The site enables downloading the IDC’s rules on describing precious stones in English, German, Russian, Arabic and Chinese, the council said in a statement November 20.

The development comes after the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) published a new consumer-orientated guide to diamond vocabulary in July 2015.

“The launch of the new site comes at a timely moment,” IDC chairman Harry Levy said in the statement, referring to the publication of ISO 18323 Jewellery -- Consumer confidence in the diamond industry. “Consumer confidence in diamonds currently stands at the top of our industry's agenda.”
