RAPAPORT... Diamond production from the Diavik mine in Canada
jumped 22 percent in the third quarter as processing volumes and recovered
grades both increased, Dominion Diamond Corporation reported.
Output rose to 1.54 million carats in the
three months that ended September 30. Processing volumes grew 22 percent because
of higher ore availability, particular from pipe A-418, which experienced poor
ground conditions in the same period a year ago.
Dominion’s share of
production stood at 618,000 carats, according to the miner, which owns 40
percent of the project. Rio Tinto, which owns the remainder, said its share of
output was 927,000 carats.
In the first nine
months of the year, total mine production increased 2 percent to about 5
million carats. Dominion’s share of output was 2 million carats and Rio Tinto’s
3 million carats.
