RAPAPORT... International Diamond Week in Israel (IDWI) opened on Monday, with around 400 buyers and more than 200 exhibitors attending, the Israel Diamond Exchange (IDE) said. Buyers came from more than 30 countries, according to the bourse.

Tuesday saw the launch of an international tender center in the IDE, which has signed up six companies to hold sales, including Russian miner ALROSA.

ALROSA is also holding an auction of rough and polished diamonds at IDWI, mainly featuring larger, higher-quality stones.

While the volume of ALROSA’s rough sales to Israel is relatively small, the country is one of the miner’s three largest markets in terms of the value of rough sold, ALROSA president Andrey Zharkov said in a presentation on Monday.
