Getting to the chief executive officer (CEO) position in any company takes more than just the right qualifications and hard work. It takes a certain drive and determination as well. If you are a woman, it takes an even bigger push to get to the top spot. To put it in perspective, in its report, “Women CEOs of the S&P 500,” the international research firm Catalyst found that as of July 2016 there are only 22 women CEOs at these companies, accounting for just a meager 4.4 percent of those holding the elite title.
Rapaport Magazine special correspondent Ettagale Blauer talked to some of the female CEOs in the diamond and jewelry industry who have made a name for themselves and found out exactly what it takes to head their respective companies. Each of these women has walked her own path and each one has a unique story that has led them to the CEO positions they now hold. However, one thing that all of these women have in common — besides being capable and dedicated — is a passion for what they do. Throw in some good mentors, networking skills and the ability to adapt to new situations and the result is success. Over the next few pages, you will meet five different women, from very mixed backgrounds, all of whom have made it to CEO.
