RAPAPORT...  Sotheby's announced that it will be offering a 100.20-carat, D color, internally flawless emerald-cut diamond at its April 21, 2015 auction in New York City.

The diamond is the largest D, IF emerald-cut stone ever presented at auction. Estimated at $19 million to $25 million, the gem was unveiled at a photo call in London and is dubbed by Sotheby's  the "Ultimate Emerald Cut Diamond."diamonds

The rough from which it was cut weighed over 200 carats and was mined in southern Africa by De Beers.  The owner spent over a year cutting and polishing the diamond to perfection.

Gary Schuler, the head of Sotheby's jewelry department in New York, compared the diamond to a "pool of icy water" for its purity of color and transparent clarity.

Lisa Hubbard, the chairman of North & South America for Sotheby's International Jewelry Division, described the diamond as "the rarest object of natural beauty on the market right now; this 100-carat diamond could be considered the ultimate asset."

Two D, flawless diamonds over 100 carats sold at auction during 2013; one garnered $262,830 per carat and the other sold for $258,708 per carat.

The Ultimate Emerald-Cut Diamond will be on exhibit in Dubai from March 16 to 18; Los Angeles on March 29; Hong Kong from April 2 to 5; London from April 8 to 12; Doha from April 14 to 15 and it will be on view in New York from April 17 to 21.
