Hong Kong Authorities Search for Girl in $5M Necklace Theft

RAPAPORT... A diamond necklace worth $4.6 million (HKD 36 million) was stolen by three well-dressed suspects and a girl, who was possibly as young as 12 years old, from an Empire Jewelry store in Hong Kong.
Authorities believe the adults were being assisted by store staff, while the girl gained access to a jewelry display case key, opened it and pocketed the valuable diamond necklace before exiting the boutique. The staff did not discover the theft for two hours.
The necklace, set in gold, was embedded with 30 diamonds, weighing a total of 117 carats. The theft reportedly occurred around 3 p.m. on January 23. No arrests had been made at press time.
