Japan's December Polished Diamond Imports +3%

RAPAPORT... Japan’s polished diamond imports rose 3 percent year on year to $69.7 million in December, ‎Momozawa reported, citing the Finance Ministry. By volume, polished imports grew 2 percent to 134,573 carats, while the average price of diamonds rose 0.8 percent to $518 per carat.

Polished diamond imports from India dropped 1 percent during December to $28.8 million, while imports from Belgium rose 39 percent to $18.6 million. Polished imports from Israel jumped 92 percent to $8.1 million, while imports from Hong Kong dropped 38 percent to $5.2 million.

During 2013, Japan's polished imports fell 3 percent year on year to $874.4 million, while the volume of goods increased 15 percent to 2.349 million carats.
