Press Release: The International Gemological Institute (IGI) – the world's largest independent gem certification and appraisal institute – today announced its fourth IGI D-Show, held in Bengaluru’s Taj Westend, September 1 to 3. A unique buyer-seller knowledge event, the workshop is designed to facilitate better relations between retailers and diamond jewelry manufacturers.

In response to overwhelming support from trade members across India, the Institute has expanded the presentation to additional cities, including its fourth setting, Bangalore. IGI selected this location due to its promising potential for a strong diamond and diamond jewelry market. The objective is to bring together like-minded jewelers who rely on IGI certification – including some of the most renowned manufacturers in India and major retailers from Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh – giving them an opportunity to interact and establish long-term business relations. The broader vision of the D-Show is to further the development of India’s gemstone market.

As part of the Bangalore presentation, IGI is hosting a special seminar on “Challenges in Identification and Diamond Grading.” Led by IGI India's general manager, Ramit Kapur, the session will provide insight into the intricacies involved in identifying a diamond’s origin. Other focal points include guidelines to follow when purchasing diamonds for jewelry purposes, efficient grading techniques, application of master diamond comparison stones, grading of fancy shapes, understanding light return and the importance of the finish grade.

The past three IGI D-Shows, set in three different cities, have been highly successful and greeted with open arms by the trade. The first was held in the birth place of diamonds in India, Hyderabad; the second was in the national capital, New Delhi, and the third was in the cultural crown of India, Kolkata. Each D-Show not only hosts approximately 800 meetings between industry luminaries, but also holds exclusive seminars to help empower participants to effectively face industry challenges.

“Building on the success of IGI’s previous D-Shows, our team has been researching the potential and scope of the Bangalore market, and the positive results of that analysis triggered our expansion to the ‘IT City’,” said IGI India's managing director, Tehmasp Printer. “We take immense pride in the response we have received thus far from industry leaders.”

Printer continued, “IGI has strong partnerships with manufacturers and retailers that have subscribed to IGI certification. We look forward to strengthening those relationships, building new ones and exploring future prospects through Bangalore’s D-Show.”
