RAPAPORT... The proposed Hira Diamond Bourse in Surat is already generating a lot of interest from the gems and jewelry industry. Speaking exclusively with Rapaport News, Dinesh Navadia, the president of the Surat Diamond Association (SDA), said,  “We have received 9,500 letters, so far, from industry players across India and from also overseas. Each of them have expressed a desire to have their office at the bourse. The office sizes may vary -- from 300 square feet to 3,000 square feet hence, I am not in a position as of now to confirm the number of offices that it shall house.”

Navadia confirmed the news that the Gujarat government has allocated a space for housing the bourse. He said, “The news of the land allocation came to us just about two days ago. We have been allotted 300,000 square feet of space to bring up the bourse and this shall be at par with international standard housing all amenities, like a full fledge convention center as well.”

The space given to build the bourse will be a part of the Gift City that is going to be spread across 886 acres of land, situated between Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar. Apart from the Hira Diamond Bourse, the Gift City (Gujarat International Finance Tech City) shall also house many other industries thus, making it a financial hub for Gujarat. According to Navadia, the development of the bourse shall be done in the format of a private public partnership thus, funding for the entire project shall not be an issue.
