India to Host World Diamond Conference in December

RAPAPORT...   The Gems & Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC) of India will host the World Diamond Conference, December 11 and 12.  The event is being held in association with World Diamond Mark Foundation (WDMF) and is supported by the Ministry of Commerce and Industry of the government of India.

Speaking exclusively with Rapaport News, Vipul Shah, the chairman of the GJEPC, said,  “We are extremely proud to host the World Diamond Conference. The conference shall take place in New Delhi and since GJEPC is a part of the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, the event is being wholeheartedly supported by them. Through this conference, we aim to establish closer ties with Russia and we shall also have a chance to come face-to-face with representatives from different mining countries of the world."

Shah added that the aim of the conference is to discuss the future of diamond industry as well as the diamond jewelry consumer market. "We are expecting Russia's President Vladimir Putin to attend and conference and have also sent an invitation to Prime Minister Narendra Modi.”

The conference shall also have in attendance,  key participants of major diamond producers, diamond and jewelry manufacturers, retailers and industry interest organizations. The august gathering at the conference is expected to address the most urgent issues being faced by the industry – the revival of consumer enthusiasm for diamonds and the consequent increase of market share for diamond jewelry in the luxury sector.

Alex Popov, the chairman of the World Diamond Mark Foundation, said, “The global diamond industry is subject to challenging times. Consumer demand for the category needs tremendous boost and thus, global marketing is a significant area that needs detailed deliberation. The World Diamond Conference is an effort to consolidate the industry under one roof and plan a way forward.”
