RAPAPORT... Polished diamond imports to China through the Shanghai Diamond Exchange (SDE) rose 31 percent year on year to $2.24 billion in 2014, the SDE reported. By volume, the imports rose 20 percent to 1.71 million carats.

The total value of transactions conducted in the exchange grew 19 percent to $5.13 billion from 110.94 million carats.

According to the Xinhua news agency, China’s polished diamond imports fell in the fourth quarter following strong growth in the first nine months of the year. Imports fell again in January due to sluggish global economic recovery and a weak domestic market, Xinhua quoted the SDE as reporting.

The SDE recently updated its website enabling individual companies to a portal to post information about their business.
