Gahcho Kué Operators Welcome Water License Permit

RAPAPORT... De Beers Canada and Mountain Province Diamonds received approval for the type A water license for the Gahcho Kué diamond project in Canada. The water license was approved by Michael Miltenberge, the Minister of Environment and Natural Resources (ENR) of the Government of the Northwest Territories.

“The Gahcho Kué mine represents a significant investment which will result in employment and business opportunities that will contribute to the economic growth and prosperity of the Northwest Territories,” said Tony Guthrie, the CEO of De Beers Canada

Gahcho Kué will employ almost 700 people during the two years of construction and approximately 400 people during its operational phase. Production is set to begin in 2016.

De Beers owns a 51 percent share in the project, while Mountain Province Diamonds is a 49 percent stakeholder.
