Members of the Shenzhen Rough Diamond Exchange (SRDE) have elected its CEO, Wang Ning, as chairman, the organization announced last week.

Ning (pictured) will serve a renewable two-year term at the SRDE, a trading platform for diamonds, jade and gemstones. The organization made the decision during a summit earlier this month in Shenzhen, at which it also chose its first governing council — the body Ning will chair.

The exchange has 63 corporate members representing the diamond, colored-gemstone, jewelry and service sectors, it said. These include public companies, suppliers and retail chains.

Around 300 members of the trade attended the gathering, which the SRDE hosted along with the Gems & Jewelry Trade Association of Guangdong Province and the Shenzhen Gold & Jewelry Association. Delegates discussed developing the Chinese city as an international diamond hub, and the exchange used the occasion to launch a service to help its members finance diamond purchases.
