RAPAPORT... Diamond trading at the Hong Kong Jewellery & Gem Fair held  steady on Wednesday with strong visitor traffic, despite the opening of the second venue of the show that features finished jewelry.  The loose diamond section of the show is located at the AsiaWorld-Expo from September 15 to 19, while finished jewelry is being exhibited at the Hong Kong Convention & Exhibition Centre from September 17 to 21.

Diamond dealers expressed concern that the opening of the second venue might detract buyers from the loose stone section, but they were visibly pleased at the traffic recorded so far – even if trading has been just about average.

Exhibitors noted that buyers are looking for specific items to fill existing orders and avoiding high-volume orders. There is generally good demand for G-J, VS-SI goods in all sizes, with strong demand for nice-make, triple EX diamonds. Prices are relatively steady, if slightly softer on most items with some larger companies looking to generate cash to ease their liquidity concerns.
