RAPAPORT...  Jewelers Mutual Insurance Company will host a webinar on October 20  at 9 a.m. (CDT) and again on October 24 at 2 p.m. (CDT) titled "Social Media: Opportunities and Perils for Jewelers" to help jewelers polish their social media skills. Obviously, social media interaction with existing and potential customers is an effective way to promote a business, but Jewelers Mutual warned jewelers that criminals, too, are watching.

"Using social media for your business is a terrific way to engage with your clients, but jewelers need to be careful to avoid inadvertently putting themselves at risk," said Carrie Volp, Jewelers Mutual's loss prevention specialist. "Jewelers walk a fine line in deciding what to post and, more importantly, what not to post, so we are hosting this webinar to help jewelers use social media successfully and safely."

Jewelers Mutual's loss prevention team will facilitate the webinar and they will be joined by Shane O'Neill, the vice president of Fruchtman Marketing, and  Daniel Gordon, a fourth generation jeweler and social media planner at Diamond Cellar.

The webinar will discuss general principles which jewelers can apply to all social media platforms as well as a more in depth exploration of Facebook, Pinterest, Instagram and Twitter.
