Sotheby’s Sells $18.4 Million of Diamonds at Important Jewels Event

RAPAPORT... Sotheby’s sold $18.4 million of diamonds in its recent two-day sale in New York, including an emerald-cut diamond ring that weighed a 30.15 carats, reports Blouin Artinfo.
The F-color ring was purchased for $2.6 million at the U.S. auctioneer's Important Jewels sale held September 23 and 24.
A number of lots from the Estate of Dolores Sherwood Bosshard fetched a total of $2.3 million, nearly double the pre-sales estimate, according to Artinfo. These included a sapphire and diamond stylized bow brooch by Van Cleef & Arpels, from around 1937, which went for $162,500.
A platinum bracelet by Harry Winston from around 1960, with diamonds weighing a total of 101.00 carats engraved on it in cluster-style, was auctioned for $424,000. A cushion-cut sapphire weighing 43.25 carats framed by round and marquise-shaped diamonds and weighing around 2.90 carats sold for $802,000.
Another sale was a pair of Winston-designed earrings, comprised of two round diamonds of about 4.70 carats and accented by pear- and marquise-shaped diamonds weighing approximately 59.00 carats, auctioned for $418,000.
