RAPAPORT... Lucapa Diamond Company has identified confirmed kimberlite material at its Lulo project in Angola.

The miner said the identification, L259, was a “significant outcome” from its pitting and grade control programs around its Mining Block 8 alluvial diamond field in the African state.

It also announced an expansion of the alluvial gravels at the mining block, which has been the source of diamonds of more than 10.8 carats and fancy colors, the company said in a statement posted on its website. It added that the site would remain the focus of its future alluvial diamond production operations at Lulo.

Lucapa CEO Stephen Wetherall said the group had been recovering both “large, valuable diamonds” and coarse kimberlite indicator minerals.

“This makes L259 a compelling target as we close in on our major goal at Lulo, which is to find the primary kimberlite source or sources of the exceptional alluvial diamonds we are recovering on a daily basis,” Wetherall added in the statement.

“The area we have recovered kimberlite material from in our ongoing pitting program also suggests this to be a significantly sized kimberlite.”
