Former Tiffany CEO and Descendant Dies at 91

RAPAPORT... Henry B. Platt, the 91-year-old former chairman and CEO of Tiffany & Co. died on July 22 at his home in Palm Beach, Florida, the New York Times reported last week. Platt was the last descendant of founder Louis Comfort Tiffany to manage the company. 

After Avon Products bought Tiffany for $104 million in 1979, Platt served as chairman and chief executive before leaving in 1981.

Platt was known for playing a key role in popularizing the colored gemstones tanzanite and tsavorite in the U.S. He also encouraged the development talented jewelry designed, including Elsa Peretti, Paloma Picasso and Angela Cummings.
