Press Release: Mervis Diamond Importers recently received glowing press from The Wall Street Journal regarding Mervis' long-standing support of marriage equality.

Mervis has offered traditional and unconventional engagement rings and wedding bands designed for same-sex couples since 2010. Months before gay couples could legally marry in Washington, D.C., and years before a gay couple could legally marry in Maryland, Mervis launched a line of wedding bands designed for same-sex couples.

According to The Wall Street Journal article, Macy's and Tiffany & Co. are also courting same-sex couples by advertising in gay and lesbian publications, participating in gay and lesbian wedding fairs and sponsoring gay pride events.

Research shows a financial upside to supporting gay marriage, as well as a social one. The Pew Research Center estimates that more than 70,000 same-sex marriages have taken place over the past 10 years. Given that the diamond engagement and wedding ring market hit $11 billion in 2012, and the typical LGBT household has an income nearly 25 percent higher than the average U.S. household, it's no surprise that the larger jewelry stores are catering to the needs of all couples.

The Wall Street Journal article comes at an especially opportune time for Mervis, as the company finalizes details for its "Wedding Bands for Every Couple" event on April 12 and 13. "Wedding Bands for Every Couple" will take place in each of Mervis' three locations: 1900 Mervis Way, Tysons Corner, Virginia; 1775 Rockville Pike, Rockville, Maryland and 1700 K St. NW, Washington, D.C. Visitors to the event will find special wedding ring inventory and numerous pricing specials, refreshments, and wedding-related gift bags.
