RAPAPORT... The U.S. Postal Service (USPS) lost a parcel of $50,000 of diamonds shipped express to the Gemological Institute of America (GIA) lab in Carlsbad, California, Nashville, Tennesee local television station WSMV-TV reported on Tuesday.

Joey Nunley, co-owner of Nashville jewelry store Prima Jewelers, told the TV station that this was the first time in 20 years of sending diamond parcels through the mail that a package had gone missing. He said that he had insured the parcel for the legal maximum of $5,000.

Nunley said that while after repeated attempts to file a claim, the postal service told him that his insurance claim was being processed. The postal service also told him, he said, that his parcel was last recorded as last being processed in a Los Angeles post office ad marked “undeliverable as addressed.”

USPS responded to the television station’s request for comment by stating that its own investigation in the case was still underway.
