Press Release: Shree Ramkrishna Exports (SRK)  welcomed the New Year with His Holiness the Dalai Lama, who recently visited the SRK empire. The messenger of peace and kindness headed to SRK's Surat-based manufacturing facility on January 1, 2015. It was  the first time that the global icon and spiritual leader toured the diamond city of Surat.

The SRK Foundation, which was established by Govind Dholakia, the founder and chairman of SRK,  honored His Holiness The 14th Dalai Lama, Tenzin Gyatso, with the Santokbaa Award on January 2.  The Dalai Lama, who won the Noble Prize in 1989, was conferred with the accolade for his efforts to make the world a peaceful place, restlessly spreading one religion -- that of kindness.

The Santokbaa Award was conferred by O.P. Kohli,  the governor of Gujarat State. SRK Foundation also handed over a check for $40,500 (INR 2.5 million) and a diamond-studded trophy to His Holiness.

The Santokbaa Award is given to luminary personalities who have served society with compassion, truth, dedication and selflessness, and whose efforts have brought a smile to the face of others. The award is in memory of SRK Founder Govind Dholakia’s late mother “Santokbaa.”

In the past, the Santokbaa Award has also been conferred upon Dr. Sam Pitroda, the father of India's telecom revolution; Dr. Verghese Kurian, the founder of AMUL and the founder and father of the white revolution in India, Dr. HL Trivedi, a globally renowned kidney transplant surgeon; professor M.S. Swaminathan, the father of India's green revolution; Shri Narayan Desai, a renowned Gandhian and humanitarian and Smt. Poornimaben Pakvasa, a freedom fighter and an empowerer of woman. These personalities have uplifted the standards of humanity and worked selflessly for a better society.

During his two-and-a-half day tour of Surat, His Holiness also interacted with students and fellow Tibetans at a seminar organized by the SRK Foundation. He also spoke on ethics in business in the current century at a session with prominent business personalities across the country.
