RAPAPORT... Former Israel Diamond Exchange president Shmuel Schnitzer has been elected chairman of the Israel Diamond Institute Group of Companies (IDI).

Schnitzer recently completed his fourth term as IDE president and replaces Moti Ganz, who served three terms as chairman of the IDI, a non-profit company representing institutions in the diamond industry.

Schnitzer first served as president of the bourse in Ramat Gan from 1998 to 2004 and later received the title of honorary president of the exchange. He also served as president of the World Federation of Diamond Bourses (WFDB) from 2002 to 2006 and was later made honorary president of that organization. He served his fourth term as IDE president from 2013 to 2015.

Schnitzer and Ganz were both recently appointed to an advisory panel of Israeli diamond-industry veterans set up by new IDE president Yoram Dvash.
