Massive Rough Diamond to Star at Israel Show

RAPAPORT... The Diavik Foxfire, the largest rough diamond ever found in
North America, will feature at the third International Rough Diamond Week in
Israel next week.

Tinto discovered the 187.7-carat diamond at its Diavik mine in Canada’s Northwest
Territories last fall. It is being shown at select diamond centers around the
world ahead of an auction next month.
The exhibition is scheduled to be held at the Israel Diamond
Exchange (IDE) in Ramat Gan from May 22 to 26. Only a small number of venues have
been chosen to showcase the stone before online bidding opens, said Alan
Davies, Rio Tinto’s chief executive officer for diamonds and minerals.
“The fact that Rio Tinto is showing this huge diamond in
Ramat Gan is testimony to the importance it attributes to Israel as a rough
diamond hub,” said IDE president Yoram Dvash, adding that over $5 billion of
rough diamonds are traded in the country each year.
International Rough Diamond Week will also showcase a
32.33-carat vivid pink diamond, an 18.35-carat intense pink gem and a
245.42-carat D-color stone, the Israel Diamond Institute said. It will host
tenders and auctions by Rio Tinto, De Beers, ALROSA and Tzoffeys 1818.
