AGTA Hands Out Summer Spectrum Gem Awards

RAPAPORT... The American Gem Trade Association (AGTA) unveiled the winners of the summer 2016 AGTA Spectrum Awards held in New York on July 23 and 24.

Ruben Bindra of B & B Fine Gems won the Best of Show award for a suite of round, brilliant Russian demantoid garnets with a total carat weight of 24.67 carats.

Best Use of Color was awarded to Derek Katzenbach of Katzenbach Designs for a 14-karat white gold ring featuring a 4.97-carat bicolored tourmaline accented with tsavorite garnets, tourmalines and diamonds with a total carat weight of 0.69 carats (pictured).

First place for bridal wear went to Ricardo Basta, of E. Eichberg, Inc., for a platinum "Royal Blue" ring featuring a 12-carat, blue sapphire accented with diamonds with a total carat weight of 2.59 carats. The ring features a detachable 18K yellow gold "Quilt" jacket featuring Turquoise accented with diamonds weighting 0.43 carats and tsavorite garnets weighing 0.16 carats.
