RAPAPORT... Seven people have been arrested on suspicion of involvement
in a multi-million dollar diamond robbery at Amsterdam’s Schiphol airport 12
years ago, the Associated Press (AP) reported.
The five men and two women, all of them Dutch nationals,
were arrested in Amsterdam and the Spanish city of Valencia on Friday and
Saturday, the report said, citing a statement by the Netherlands’ Royal
Marechaussee police.
On February 25, 2005, armed robbers hijacked an armored car
in a secure area of the airport and took diamonds worth more than $72 million,
AP said. Some of the stolen goods were quickly recovered from a getaway car,
but the police said diamonds worth $43 million are still missing.
The seven suspects were tracked down based on an
investigation of new information, the news wire reported.
