Putting a new twist on engagement rings, Ritani introduces its Anadaré collection of bridal jewelry. Anadaré is derived from an Italian word that means “to tie.” The rings in this collection are meant to represent the moment when two hearts become one, captured in the double-helix-shape design.

For those who like to keep it natural, Diamond in the Rough has debuted a line of bridal jewelry showcasing rough diamonds. These rings draw upon the history of the use of diamonds in jewelry in the fifteenth century when rough diamonds symbolized the unification of two souls in marriage. In addition to engagement rings, the line also offers wedding bands comprised of natural rough diamonds and micropavé. Each ring is handcrafted to highlight the unique rough diamond center stone ranging in colors from white to cognac and in shiny or opaque textures.

The Jewelry Information Center (JIC) held its annual Editors Luncheon at Vermilion in New York City, where more than 60 editors, stylists and writers attended the event to view the most au courant fine jewelry trends. The event, meant to entice editors into showcasing fine jewelry in the pages of their magazines, featured jewelry from 30 JIC members. It was cosponsored by Jewelers Mutual Insurance Company and World Gold Council (WGC).

Affordable is the name of the game these days and Italian jewelry design firm Rebecca has unveiled its new Griffe collection of open-link chain necklaces and hoop earrings in gold-plated bronze and steel for a fashion-forward look at a wallet-friendly price. The brand has also introduced its Lucky collection of pendants, amulets and rings engraved with Italian good luck motifs. The Cleopatra collection, comprised of geometric forms with an Egyptian motif, also bowed.

The American Gem Trade Association (AGTA) announced the judges for its 2010 AGTA Spectrum Awards competition. They are: Marlene Richey, design consultant/writer; John Hatleburg, gem artist; Mish Tworkowski, Mish New York; Nicole Keating, editor Women’s Wear Daily and W magazine; Benjamin Macklowe, Macklowe Gallery and Cecilia Bauer, jewelry designer.

All competition entries will be on view during Editor’s Day in New York City, following the judging. Deadline for entries is September 25, 2009. For information, visit agta.org/awards or call 800.972.1162.

Entries are now being accepted for the 2010 Centurion Emerging Designer Awards, sponsored by the Centurion show, to be held in Tucson, Arizona, January 31 through February 2. Designers must submit photos of three pieces of their jewelry. Winners will be awarded a shared exhibit space at the show. Entries will be judged on creativity, originality, function, production quality, craftsmanship/skill and ability to sell in high-end stores.
