Mined primarily in Australia, opal has become increasingly popular over the past couple of years. Its play of color paints a mesmerizing, ever-changing picture inside the gem. An ancient origin story from the Australian Aboriginals recounts that the creator came to earth on a rainbow to bring a message of peace to humans. When his foot touched land, the stones began to shine in all the colors of the rainbow, creating opals. Historically, opal has been considered good luck because it embodies all the positive traits of other gemstones whose colors flash inside of it.
