Fancy Shapes September 2007

By Rapaport
RAPAPORT... The inspiration for the Divine Cut, which was created by Girish Patel, comes from the sense of spiritual peace and enlightenment that was prevalent in the 1960s. The shape of the Divine Cut is almost like a curved drop of water. It is featured in a branded line of jewelry manufactured in Mumbai by the Jewel Goldi company, a division of the Shree Ramkrishna Export group.

PHYSICAL CHARACTERISTICS AND CUTTING ISSUES

The Divine diamond is a 63-faceted stone, with the crown having 37 facets including the table and the pavilion having 26 facets. The crown angle is between 12 to 15 degrees and the pavilion angles are around 40 to 44 degrees. Sizes featured in the Divine jewelry collection range from 0.20 carats and above. The stone comes in clarities of SI and up and colors of I plus. The yield is about 2 to 3 percent lower than normal yield.

MARKETS AND MARKETING

The Divine design is proprietary; a patent is pending. The Divine jewelry collection is in the process of being introduced at select trade shows around the world. It is initially aimed at exclusive high-end retailers in the U.S. and Japan. A promotional campaign is underway through the company’s offices in Mumbai and New York, with print advertising in trade publications. There is a section devoted to the cut on the company’s website, www.shreeramkrishnaexport.com.

The jewelry will be sold with an in-house certification detailing the diamond’s characteristics and properties. There will be identifying logos and special packaging. In-store promotional materials such as brochures and banners are available for retailers.

PRICING AND SUPPLY

Pricing will be determined as the Divine jewelry collection is further developed. There are no supply issues.

WHAT BUYERS SHOULD LOOK FOR

The Divine symbolizes the feeling of being connected to the divine self and the feelings of spiritual empowerment and inner peace presented in a collection of modern jewelry. The diamond’s unique shape comprises 63 facets, which represent the numbers 6 plus 3 and add up to 9, said to be an auspicious number.
