Just because Rap needed room for the 10+ doesn't mean he should kill the stones that are 30's and 40's

6ct to 9.99 prices
Feb 25, 2008 4:42AM    By Amish Turakhia
i agree with sachiv- the trade is unsure on how to determine prices for stones between 6 to 9.99 cts. Also its difficult to believe tht a visionary like Rapaport could not foresee this. Whatever the reasons- he needs to come out with a solution for this because at the end of the day we all want to make money but most importantly we want the prices to be realistic for the long term benefit of the trade.

Feb 22, 2008 10:36PM    By Rony Sztokfisz
with this new 10ct list , you are bringing more speculation to the market , the only solution is to make the Diamond a commodity. Lets work all toghether and make this happen .

bang on.

10ct list was in the making for a long long time.
I am not in the least surprised by this move ....in fact I wholeheartedly welcome it.All those atrocious + over the list prices were as it was reaching never before heard heights. The 10ct list will infact help in cooling down the speculation into more controlled trading. Also I feel that the market now is not what we witnessed in the early 80's.
As rightly said there are 11 million plus millionaires ,we do have all that $70 plus extra oil monies floating around and never have we seen soooo much money floating on planet earth. All in all..it is rightly said..Government can print all the monies they like but who can print diamonds>>>

A Chance to play the role of G-D
Feb 22, 2008 12:12PM    By Steve Cohn
You Martin Helped create this possible diamond meltdown by publishing in your Rapaport so MANY rapid price increases.

You know your Rapaport is viewed as the bible of diamond prices.

NOW instead of calming the industry with carefully crafted words, you choose to come out live on video on 2/21/08 warning us about possible diamond meltdowns of something you helped manifest.

Please pray hard to do the right thing. Remember your words and writings really help or hurt consumer and dealer confidence. You have been given lots of power and with power comes a chance to show G-dlyness and responsibility.

rapaport prices
Feb 22, 2008 11:52AM    By sachiv mehta
Now that you have released the 10 ct up price list, it is time for 6.00cts to9.99 cts list.
Until and unless a list of that kind does not come through , there is going to be immense speculation in this segment.
I feel this is going to cause a lot of uncertinity, when a speculator sells goods to another speculator.

10 CT LIST WITH NO ADVANCE NOTICE
Feb 22, 2008 11:17AM    By JACK AZAR
I AM VERY SURPRISED AND ALSO DISAPPOINTED THAT WHY RAPPAPORT DIDN'T ANNOUNCE THIS IMPORTANT NEW SIZE LIST IN ADVANCE. THE CONSEQUENCES ARE THAT THIS SUDDEN MOVE HURT THE MARKET IN MANY WAYS. FOR EXAMPLE THE SOFTWARE THAT WE RUN NOW IS AFFECTED; LARGER DIAMONDS THAT ARE ON MEMO OR IN THE MIDDLE OF TRANSACTION ARE AFFECTED.

right on!

Martin,
Great speech!
You've nailed the last 3 years problem (hoarding in the trade) right on!
Good move with 10 ct pricing! (though I'd think the pricing should've been split for 6-8 ct AND 9-11 cts!)
