For the most part, U.S. retail sales registered single-digit increases on a comparable-store basis in February 2010. The news from the Hong Kong show was mainly positive. Buyers returned to the bargaining table and were willing to accept higher asking prices, given the improved diamond demand and some shortages in certain goods. The demand from Asia was particularly strong at this year's show. The employment outlook for Surat's diamond sector has greatly improved from one year ago. According to India's regional manufacturing sector, more cutting and polishing jobs will be available in the coming months.
