RAPAPORT... The Gemological Institute of America’s (GIA) London campus will host its the sixth annual "Open Day" on June 15 as part of Jewellery Week, a city-wide celebration from June 11 to 17 honoring London's heritage of innovative jewelry design, manufacturing and retail.  Among the events scheduled for the week are special collection launches, exhibitions, receptions, seminars and fashion shows.

GIA's Open Day events, which are all free, will run from noon to 6 p.m. on June 15, and will include lectures on gemology, diamonds, colored gemstones and jewelry and open classrooms featuring interactive gemology and design lessons.  GIA staff will also be on-hand to answer questions about gemology and GIA offerings.

The director of GIA in London, Edward Johnson, noted that, "Open Day is an important part of our responsibility as a global nonprofit organization and a U.K. registered charity.  We invite anyone from the trade or public to visit and learn more about GIA's activities, especially the renowned educational offerings in the U.K. and worldwide."

Johnson will also be giving a lecture titled "The Essential Guide to Selling Diamonds," which will offer practical retail advice on selling jewelry, during The Jewellery Show London on June 12.
