Press Release - Ramat Gan, Israel, May 31, 2012: The Israel Diamond Institute Group of Companies (IDI) will host the largest pavilion at the June Hong Kong Jewellery & Gem Fair, which will take place from June 21 – 26, 2012. The pavilion will feature about 80 diamond companies, some of whom are participating in this show for the first time. There are also about 20 Israeli companies exhibiting throughout the show. This is the second time that IDI is organizing a national pavilion at this show.

Last year the Israeli pavilion hosted 60 diamond companies. The major turnout at this show this year testifies to the importance that the Israeli Diamond Industry attributes to this show, and to Hong Kong, a vital and growing diamond market.

The Israel Diamond Pavilion is located in Hall 3FG, with a few IDI exhibitors at the hall entrance.  IDI’s information booth is located at 3G406 at the entrance to the pavilion. It will provide printed information and background on the Israeli diamond industry and will help buyers find their way through the pavilion.

An online mini-site, which can be accessed through the IDI portal site, enables buyers to visit the pavilion virtually before the show. The mini-site includes contact details of all Israeli exhibitors, including those not participating in the pavilion, as well as a map indicating their location at the show.

Asia is Israel’s second largest market for polished diamonds representing 35 % of total polished diamond exports. In 2011 net exports of polished diamonds to Hong Kong stood at $1.9 billion.

IDI Chairman Moti Ganz said that Hong Kong, as a gateway to Asia, has become a major marketing focus for the Israeli Diamond Industry. “We believe in the economic future of this region and the growth in demand for diamonds and diamond jewelry here. We’re pleased that the Israeli industry is playing an important role in supplying this demand.”

IDI Managing Director Eli Avidar said “Dozens of Israeli companies have set up offices in Hong Kong and elsewhere in the Far East and many are manufacturing diamonds and diamond jewelry there as well. IDI’s Hong Kong office works closely with them and also serves as a “home away from home” for the many Israeli companies that send representatives to Hong Kong on a regular basis.”

“We are focusing much of our marketing efforts on Asia – especially Hong Kong. We participate in three trade shows in Hong Kong throughout the year, and at every show we have more and more Israeli exhibitors. Although we have expanded the size of our pavilions demand is so great that we have a waiting list for some of the shows,” Avidar added.

Avidar noted that IDI’s Chinese-language portal site the only one of its kind, has become an important vehicle for facilitating direct contacts between these countries.
