RAPAPORT... Two contractors have died at Gem Diamonds' prospective Ghaghoo mine in Botswana ‎following a cave in at the face of a tunnel development.

The incident has been fully investigated and the department of mines has given ‎permission for the project to continue with additional safety precautions put in place.

‎"The company again extends its condolences to the families of the two deceased and ‎commits itself to continuing to strive for the highest safety standards for its employees ‎and contractors at all of its operations," said Gem Diamonds' chief executive,  Clifford ‎Elphick.

Gem Diamonds noted that the adverse ground conditions together with the incident will ‎likely result in a delaying of production until the first half of 2014, ‎even though the construction of the plant as well as the infrastructure is on time and on ‎budget.‎
