RAPAPORT... Rio Tinto has appointed Alan Davies as chief executive of its diamonds and minerals ‎group in a series of management changes taking place at the mining giant. Davies will ‎replace Harry Kenyon-Slaney who was appointed Rio Tinto’s energy executive. ‎The appointments will be effective September 1, 2012.

Davies previously served as president of Rio Tinto’s iron ore international operations and ‎will retain responsibility for the Simandou iron ore project. Rio Tinto’s Dampier salt ‎business will also transfer to the diamonds and minerals group. ‎

‎"I welcome Alan to the executive committee, and acknowledge the leading role he has ‎played in developing partnerships with the government of Guinea, Chalco and the ‎International Finance Corporation, and leading the work to develop the Simandou ‎project," said Tom Albanese, Rio Tinto's chief executive.
