RAPAPORT... Two miners were killed and four others injured in an explosion at ALROSA's Udachinsky mining plant in the Yakutia Republic.
The accident occurred at a depth of 365 meters in this mine that is still under construction, ALROSA reported. At the time, there were 17 people inside the emergency area.
Twelve miners escaped to the surface, while four were taken to the Udachninskoye town hospital with injuries.
ALROSA expressed its condolences to the bereaved families, while company president Fyodor Andreyev signed an order to pay families of the deceased a lump sum of about $31,200 (RUB 1 million).
Authorities investigating the incident believe the explosion was caused by the ignition of a methane-air mixture.
