RAPAPORT... Several Indian diamond companies opened their offices at the Bharat Diamond Bourse (BDB) on Wednesday on the occasion of Dussehra, one of the auspicious and most important festivals in India.
Around 30 companies including Laxmi Diamond Pvt. Ltd., Bhavani Gems Pvt. Ltd., K. Girdharlal International, Asian Star Co. Ltd., R. Kantilal & Co., Sur Gems, Vaibhav Gems, Bhansali Diamonds, S. Narendra, B. Saraiya & Co., S.J. Exports, S.S. Diamonds, Chandrakant K. Shah, Sky Gem, Romil Impex Pvt. Ltd., Diamtrade, Tej-Diam, Shah & Co., Jimit Vipul Shah, Indian Gems, Chandresh Mafatlal Ghandhi, Ramesh Hirachand Jhaveri, Amidiam, KGK Diamonds (I) Pvt. Ltd., Smital Gems, P.P. Diamonds, Italia Brothers and Tarachandra Vimalkumar & Co. were scheduled to open their offices in the complex today.
Many diamond firms in the past few months shifted their base from the southern parts of Mumbai -- Opera House and Zaveri Bazaar -- traditionally focal points for the city’s diamond and jewelry trade, to BDB as the complex offers better infrastructure and facilities to the trade.
BDB, located in the Bandra-Kurla Complex in suburban Mumbai, occupies two million square feet and houses 2,500 diamond offices of various size. It offers facilities such as a trading hall, customs office, banking, restaurants and security surveillance in the same complex.
