GJEPC to Hold India Gem & Jewellery Fair in New Delhi

RAPAPORT... The Gem & Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC) and the India Trade Promotion Organisation (ITPO) will organize the first edition of the India Gem & Jewellery Fair (IGJF), which will run from April 6 to 9, 2013 at the Pragati Maidan in New Delhi.
“The India Gem & Jewellery Fair will be GJEPC’s premier endeavor to organize a business-to-consumer event,” said Vipul Shah, GJEPC’s chairman. “Our main aim to collaborate with ITPO for the IGJF is to reach out to the consumer directly and allow them to view the extensive range of jewelry from across the country.”
Shah (left in photo) added that this would also provide the Indian gem and jewelry industry a much-needed impetus as they continue to face challenges from increasing prices of precious metals that have been prohibitive to business growth in recent times. 
Rita Menon (right in photo), the chairman and managing director of ITPO, said that India has traditionally been a huge market for jewelry, having the world’s highest consumption of gold and jewelry products.
“Given the diverseness of the Indian culture, which has historically had huge influences on our jewelry designs, the IGJF was conceived as the ideal platform by which we hope to introduce the Indian consumer the gamut of jewelry crafts and extensive design and manufacturing capabilities that the industry has,” she noted.
The jewelry fair is targeted for consumers in New Delhi and the northern region. The exhibition will include 150 to 200 leading retailers and jewelry brands. It will showcase exclusive and exquisite designer or couture jewelry, high-end jewelry, and bridal wear as well as a mix of traditional, vintage, contemporary and classic styles.
The ITPO, the premier trade promotion agency of the Ministry of Commerce & Industry, and GJEPC have agreed to host the exhibition for the next three years with plans to take the exhibition to an international platform.
Bollywood actress and GJEPC brand ambassador Sonam Kapoor (center in photo) and several other officials were present at the event, which was held in Delhi to unveil the logo and concept of the exhibition.
GJEPC also stated that it would hold the first Indian International Jewellery Week (IIJW) in New Delhi from April 4 to 5, to provide jewelry designers and manufacturers of northern India with a chance to showcase their design and manufacturing prowess.
