RAPAPORT... Update (2/19/2013 2:43 a.m. EST): Brussels Airport confirmed that at 7:47 p.m. local time on Monday night, eight gunmen allegedly used two black vehicles with  flashing blue police lights to gain entry to the secured tarmac. They approached a passenger plane operated by Helvetic Airways, brandished machine guns and forced their way into the cargo hold to access a shipment of diamonds and precious metals bound for Zurich.

In a statement posted on its Facebook page, the airport confirmed, “There was no shooting and no one got ‎injured. This lasted only a few minutes and after that, they (the robbers) left the airport domain through ‎the damaged fence.”‎

(2/18/2013 7:26 p.m. EST) Eight armed men allegedly gained access to the tarmac at Brussels Airport and robbed a Brink's transport vehicle unloading diamonds from a flight, according to DMorgen.be news.  The diamonds were on a Brussels Airlines Swiss flight from Zurich, HLN.be reported.

The armed men used two vehicles to gain access to a secured area at the airport earlier this evening, just before 8 p.m. Brussels time. No shots were fired, according to reports, but one source suggested either a pilot or driver was held at gun point during the heist.

One of the robbers' getaway cars was a white Mercedes, which was apparently recovered, but a second vehicle, an Audi, was not found. Authorities would not comment on the matter but planned an 11 a.m. press conference for February 19.

An investigation has been ordered by prosecutors and police forensics are at the scene investigating.
